Writing In Public: Year 1, Month 1, Day 20

As has become the pattern, I awoke mid-morning Thursday, then worked on e-mail and stuff before making my daughter and myself a nice lunch. I got some good work done on Taxi Adventure during the afternoon, then made some tasty dinner, and then it was time for the side job again. When I returned, I was surprised to find my daughter still awake and needing attention. By the time she was asleep, I was too tired myself and called it a night.

It is interesting how solutions come. Sometimes I put off writing a scene because I don’t know how it will go. Other times, like today, I try to power through even though I have no idea what will happen, and I’m surprised to find that a workable solution almost always appears at my fingertips. I think I would get more done if I trusted this process more.

I don’t know how many words were added in total, because I’m still taking pieces out, but by the end the net was 1000 additional words.

It is interesting too that almost every new piece changes my understanding of what the story is, shuffling things around, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. As others have noted often, it feels more like discovering the story than creating it.
